HarmonyCares will grant paid holiday time off immediately upon hire to all full-time employees on the holidays listed below:
New Year’s Day (January 1)
Martin Luther King Jr. Day (third Monday in January)
Memorial Day (last Monday in May)
Independence Day (July 4)
Labor Day (first Monday in September)
Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday in November)
Day after Thanksgiving (fourth Friday in November)
Christmas Day (December 25)
Two (2) floating holidays
Floating holidays can be used, in full day increments, at any time during the calendar year. Floating holidays should be scheduled in advance and approved by the supervisor, following the standard time off request process. Floating holidays do not roll over to the next calendar year. Employees with a hire date of July 1st or later will receive one (1) floating holiday in the calendar year in which they start.
Holiday pay will be calculated based on the employee’s pay rate (as of the date of the holiday) times the number of hours the employee would otherwise have worked on that day.
To be eligible for holiday pay, employees must work the last scheduled day immediately before and the first scheduled day immediately following the holiday. If a recognized holiday falls during an eligible employee’s paid absence (such as vacation), holiday pay will be provided instead of the paid time off benefit that would otherwise have applied.
If eligible nonexempt employees work on a recognized holiday, they will receive holiday pay plus wages at one and a half times their straight-time rate for the hours worked on the holiday. If an employee is scheduled to work on a holiday and call off on the holiday, they will not be paid for the holiday. Paid time off for holidays will not be counted as hours worked for the purposes of determining whether overtime pay is owed.
Upon termination of employment, paid holiday time cannot be used on the last day(s) of work.
For more information about holidays, please refer to the Employee Handbook.
